The “KSB Cube”, inaugurated in 2016, is the first building block in the comprehensive modernization of the Kantonsspital Baden (KSB), the culmination of which is the new “Agnes” building. The new building, designed for purely outpatient use, relieves the main building of the daily stream of outpatient visitors. After completion of “Agnes”, the cube will be detached from the old building and connected to the new building. The building and its floor plan are just as clear and unbundled as the modernisation stages. In addition to operational optimization, the responsible architects, Steiger Concept, paid special attention to the beneficial effects of daylight. The waiting and recreation areas adjoin a central atrium, the treatment rooms are located along the glass facades, and the connecting paths are located in between. Only the space for the linear accelerator is a geometric exception. Docked onto the cube and with its own sheltered inner courtyard, it allows radiation under daylight.
