The representative ‘Art Nouveau’ Building on Basel’s Marktplatz is to be re-developed as a landmark steeped in history for future generations. For the purpose, the original building, which has been converted several times, will be dismantled down to the façades of the original building dating back to1904 (Alfred Romang and Wilhelm Bernoulli), the extensions from 1930 (Suter & Burckhardt) and the extension from 1975 (Suter & Suter) and be replaced by a modern new building. The “New Globe” will have a representative entrance facing the market square and a smaller, central entrance on Eisengasse. The offices on the upper floors will also be accessed via a separate entrance on Eisengasse. From the main entrance, escalators will connect to all sales floors from the basement to the 4th floor, and at the same time form an internal access from the market square to Martinskirchplatz, which is four floors higher.
