The four towers of the Hardau II settlement have shaped the cityscape of Zurich since they were built between 1976 and 1978. The proportions and setting and the sculptural facade, which is reduced to a few elements, make the ensemble designed by Max P. Kollbrunner a valuable contemporary witness in terms of building culture.
While the work on the retirement apartments is being carried out in an unoccupied condition, the other construction work is taking place in an inhabited condition. A major challenge lies in ensuring that the construction process runs as smoothly as possible. Above all, the project goal is to maintain the architectural quality and density of the facility. The entire ensemble is recorded in the inventory of protected objects of municipal importance and is implemented in close cooperation with the municipal monument preservation and municipal garden monument preservation departments.
