The refurbishment works were intended to bring the flagship store from the 1970s into the new century. In a prestigious location directly on Zurich’s Bahnhofstrasse, the conversion works were closely coordinated with the agency for the conservation of historical monuments. A particular focus of the redesign was the cramped entrance area. The glazing of the first two floors and the removal of the ceiling projection on the first floor created a two-storey entrance area. The generous appearance is reinforced by the now backlit column at the entrance. Easily visible through the glass front, especially at night, its course can be followed all the way to the roof. The new energy concept with a modern glass façade and hybrid cooling ceilings made it possible to save on technical space in favor of additional sales areas on the 5th floor and a new restaurant on the 6th floor. After the conversion, the modern flagship store was included in the city of Zurich’s inventory of listed buildings.
