Redesign of the university district
The MITTE 1/2 campus of the University Hospital Zurich faces future technological developments and economic challenges. The spatial and functional arrangement of the various facilities were carefully thought out and designed flexibly to ensure a clear separation of patient, personal and supply flows.
Furthermore, the campus is integrated into a green park, which creates an attractive environment not only for visitors and hospital employees, but also for residents. A key focus of planning and implementation is the comprehensive consideration of sustainability from a social, economic and ecological perspective. The success of the project is based on the close and cooperative collaboration of all those involved, which is supported by modern special solutions from the client and the general planner.
From a construction perspective, the team faces a herculean task. The excavation pit already extends 25m deep into the earth. The sheer volume of the building leaves hardly any space on the property for logistics and requires meticulous planning of work and deliveries throughout the entire construction process. Added to this is the technical complexity of the expansion with all the challenges that a hospital building can have, from the commercial kitchen to the emergency center, radiology, cardiac catheterization laboratory and various operating rooms with the most modern special equipment.
